This Christmas has been one of my busiest ever. Finishing up at uni, dealing with life dramas, travelling home and catching up with best friends and family hasn’t left much room for blogging. I’ve finally caught a moment on this rainy Saturday afternoon to chill out and re-visit my hobby. Pictured above are a few little Winter party outfit ideas which I’ll be sporting this festive season, but as I live in the depths of the Antarctic (commonly known as Northern Ireland) I’ll most likely be adding a massive coat on top to keep me toasty when running from the car to the event, and perhaps a pair of tights or ten to ward off frostbite.  I hope you enjoyed this style of post, I love peeking into other people’s wardrobes so thought it might be a nice addition to my usual ramblings.

On another note, although I’ve only had this blog for a year, and while it may not be incredibly well established like some other fabulous blogs, I love it nonetheless and am so thankful I built up the courage to create it in the first place. Blogging is the one hobby that I truly love; it allows me to write and create unique content and it really has broadened my horizons and given me some amazing opportunties (look at me getting all deep and meaningful.) Thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to browse through my posts or even just call by once, it really does mean a lot to me!

I think that’s enough emotion to last the Christmas season, hope you’re having a fab holiday!

BACK TO BLACK (AND WHITE)

Ahhh, the time of year when it’s finally socially acceptable for me to dress myself head to toe in shades of black, white and grey is upon us again. Sartorially, winter is my friend. Practically, it is not. I took these shots a couple of weeks ago so was able to risk a bit of bare leg before I inevitably have to force my legs into thick black tights. When you read this post I will most likely be curled up in a very small ball after the madness of freshers week, as I’ve scheduled this post ahead of time in an attempt to (sort of) keep up to date with blogging while enjoying the first couple of weeks of partying, making friends and dragging myself into uni at the break of dawn.

I saw this amazing asymmetric skirt pop up on the Missguided website at the absolute bargain price of £19.99 and immediately ran to get my purse. Missguided, I hate you a bit for encouraging me to spend my hard earned pennies, but all is forgiven - you do make gorgeous clothes with student-friendly price tags. I’m sure you’re sick to death of seeing me wear my black buckled boots in every post but my blog is an honest reflection of my style (and frankly they are very comfy) so I hope you don’t mind too much.

GUEST POST FT ELLIE FROM CANDYTAPESTRY

Hey readers of Studs-On-Saturday, My name is Ellie & I blog over at CANDYTAPESTRY.blogspot.com. This is my first ever guest post, so I thought I'd keep it to what I know and what I love! 

Mink Pink have one of my favorite brand concepts and always have such lovely patterned clothing. This A/W they've released the LALA Land Collection and I absolutely love it. The moodboard show cases four of my favourite items all available on their website and on other retailers such as ASOS & Urban Outfitters. Although the prices are sometimes high, you can't help but fall in love and consequently end up spending your bank balance of their stock. I'm not one for babbling on when I think the images can speak for themselves! Quirky designs and a hippy-esc feel, Mink Pink have got it down to a T and are right up my street this season.

JONI'S HOMIES

Hello lovelies! There is nothing particularly striking about this outfit; no dazzling sequins, no bold tartan, no new season pastel pink, but I love it all the same. Sometimes the most simple, comfortable outfits are the ones that make you feel the best and that’s certainly true of this look. If I’m having a lazy day or just can’t muster the energy to mix things up and experiment I always go back to the classic jeans and t-shirt combination (although hopefully a little more glamorous than when I wore this combo religiously in my childhood.) It’s probably not cool for someone that blogs about fashion to admit that they have these kind of ‘boring clothes’ days, but I’m sure it’s the same for all of you too. If it’s not, then I am insanely jealous and it is probably best you never come my way, beautifully clad in your fabulous outfits (Just joking, I think)

THINGS THAT NEED TO GET IN MY WARDROBE #1

First thing’s first, OH MY GOODNESS why have I never used polyvore?! It is incredible. It is also just another reason why I’m on the road  to becoming incredibly anti-social. I discovered it after seeing a few inspiring outfits on some of your lovely blogs, and I am well and truly hooked.

I’m seriously lusting after a boyfriend jacket this A/W, it's the kind of coat that actually makes your outfit more stylish instead of completely killing your look. This one is a steal at £35, and if it weren’t for the little voice in the back of my head telling me I need a coat with a hood for university (aka my mother)  I would be snapping it up right now. I have already purchased these gorgeous joni jeans from topshop and am now living in them permanently. ( I also have a similar chain from ASOS and similar shoes from Topshop,  but a girl can dream)

DUNGAREES vs DRIZZLY DAYS

Last week, I, along with many other A level students sat anxiously awaiting my fate in the form of 3 tiny black inky letters. Results day, or as my phone count down fondly referred to it, ‘the day that dreams die,’ crept up like a thief in the night and before I knew it I was logging onto my laptop at 7.42am and praying for a miracle. Thankfully when UCAS track finally updated I was greeted by the best news ever as I discovered I’d been accepted into my first choice university. I then excitedly flung open my bedroom door and basically screamed in my dad’s face.  Classy. I’m so happy to say that in little under a month I’ll be heading off to Newcastle and I cannot wait! 

Results day was followed by a very busy week of celebrating and finally sleeping, hence my lack of blogging. Today I finally got round to taking some outfit photo and managed to snap only a few shots before the heavens opened. It started as drizzle and ended with my house washing away. Joking obviously, but you get the point.

I thought I’d upload the pictures anyway as you hopefully still get a good idea of how amazing these floral dungarees are. They were a little steep at £45, but as soon as I saw the beauties I knew they were coming home with me. I kept the rest of the outfit simple and I actually wore it to a family barbeque last week (If you want to see how I looked on the day feel free to have a peek at my instagram!

WHITE NAILS, RINGS AND THINGS

Guess who’s back, back again…is probably the most overdone way to say hello when you’ve carelessly abandoned your blog for quite some time but here I am using the clichéd phrase nonetheless. 

I recently went on holiday to Bulgaria with 4 of my best friends and had quite possibly the best week of my life. We sunbathed, we gossiped, we ate, we drank (too much) and then we cried (when we had to leave.)  It was a crazy, amazing sort of week, but it meant that I had to take a bit of a break from stalking all your blogs and blogging myself. Thankfully I’m now back and have decided to get back into the swing of things with a short post about a current obsession of mine – white nails. Just before I left for Bulgaria I decided to treat myself to a gel manicure and picked the colour white on a whim, but ohhh my goodness am I in love. In my opinion white nails instantly update your look and give it somewhat of an edge, and most of the time on holiday I wore these simple metal rings which completely freshened up my outfits and added an effortless touch of cool.

They gave up a good fight, but after a week and a half of jumping into pools, dancing on bars and generally being abused, my beautiful nails have chipped and grown out. I’m already planning to ring the salon to get these beauts re-done, and I can’t see my obsession with white slowing down anytime soon.

EFOXCITY

Not too long ago I received an email from the lovely Blair at eFoxcity, a chinese wholesale website. Despite originally being a bit hesitant about ordering from foreign websites, i have bought some items from similar websites before and been very pleased with my purchases. After having a browse through their website I discovered that eFoxcity offer some gems at very affordable prices, and much of their beautiful jewellery wouldn't look out of place in more expensive UK high street shops.

As well as gorgeous jewellery, the website offers a multitude of affordable evening dresses, beautiful and inexpensive special occasion/grammy style dresses and for you lucky prom/ posh party-goers, a wide selection of cheap prom dresses. Being a student means I can't afford to pay hefty prices for new things all the time, so websites such as this one are perfect for saving my poor bank balance from suffering too much when i feel like doing a bit of impulsive online shopping. My fave part of the website definitely has to be their jewellery selection and i'm actually amazed at how cheap some of their stock is! KIMONO, OH NO

I know, I know, the sunglasses are on my face yet again (why don’t I just superglue them to my face and be done with it?) I actually didn’t realise I was still wearing them until ¾ of the way through taking these shots so quickly whipped them off for one! I recently picked up this gorgeous Spider Floral Kimono from Topshop before heading off to Radio One’s Big Weekend in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland (still cannot believe my friends managed to get tickets!) and it was the perfect practical cover up, as well as festival fashion appropriate. Despite my friends being very unsure about this little number at the beginning (words like 'wizard' and 'harry potter' were thrown around) I bought it anyway and am so glad I did. I have barely taken it off since, hence the 'oh no' of the post title. 

My disco pants are from River Island and I’ve learnt to love them again after stashing them away in my wardrobe for quite some time in favour of my Mom jeans! Not really one for majorly accessoring, I just added a simple gold spike necklace from Ebay (which was a steal at £2.99) I still absolutely love these Adonis boots from Topshop but sadly they are foot killers and I can’t wear them for very long before my feet get sore and cut. Oh the things we do for fashion.

ALUNAGEORGE GIG

Hello again, just a super quick post from me today as i'm still cramming for exams, the first of which is in a week (please send help) If you haven't heard of them, AlunaGeorge are a duo from London, made up of  Aluna Francis and George Reid, both of whom are ridiculously cool and talented. I was lucky enough to see one of their gigs about a month ago now and just thought i'd leave you with a few pictures from an amazing night! 

Aluna looked amazing and gave the sports-luxe trend an urban make-over with a gorgeous metallic gold cropped tee and side plait paired with patterned running shorts. Major outfit envy. I wore my topshop Mom jeans and a green polka dot crop top also from Topshop, which i would love to show you but a) i am a rubbish excuse for a blogger and forgot to take outift shots and b) everyone tends to looks awful by the end of a gig and i wouldn't want to scare you with the very shaky, very rough photos i did manage to take.

Hope those of you doing exams or dissertations are coping better than I am, and fingers crossed i'll manage to post again soon!

As a renowned lover of all things black, i'm more than a bit surprised at the colourful printed pieces i'm lusting after this month. i blame the weather; on the rare occasions the sun is actually visible i start dreaming of summer, ice cream and being able to actually wear less than four layers, then before you know it we're in the middle of a blizzard. Co-ords have been on my radar for quite a while now thanks to other blogs and fashion mags, but it's been notoriously difficult trying to find some in local stores or online. Thankfully the high street have caught up and are now starting to stock some beautiful matching pieces!

HELLO PRETTY THINGS, GOODBYE SOCIAL LIFE

If you read my last post, you'll know that i've spent the majority of my easter holidays revising or pretending to revise to make myself feel better (the last bit is definitely true.) As you can see from the images above, to me 'revision' clearly means lots of procrastinating and an unhealthy amount of online shopping, although I haven't bought this many new clothes in forever so i think i'll let myself off! 

Pictured first are the topshop 'mom jeans' which are a bit of a 'love em or hate em' kind of item. At first i was quite unsure of how to wear these bad boys for fear of less of an  'i'm-bringing-back-the-nineties' vibe and more of an 'i-actually-look-like-my-mum-don't-i' look. In the end though, the 90s style won me over. Staying true to the 90's trend, i picked up these two little crop tops for next to nothing from primark and ebay. They're so versatile and will probably appear in quite a few outfit posts from now on, so apologies in advance!

I'd been lusting after the 'clever ain't wise' oversized tee from asos for a while and got sick of staring wistfully at my 'saved items' list, so eventually caved and bought it. I'm in love with the 50's style bikini bottoms and top from topshop and decided to snap them up early as they seem to be selling out fast!

After watching countless sunbeamsjess videos when she mentions romwe and sheinside, I decided to have a little browse and came across this beautiful jumper for a really reasonable price. Despite being based in China, the delivery only took about a week which was a massive plus. There were a few threads loose and the elastic at the bottom isn't the best quality, but for such a good price i really don't mind. If you haven't checked out Jess' youtube channel go and have a look, her style is amazing! 

Finally, this beautiful MAC lipstick was a gift from my mum. I'm absolutely in love with it's dark, vampy purple colour and have  been wearing it non stop since i got it. If i manage to squeeze in enough time to take a few photos, i should have an outfit post featuring some of these items up soon!

HEY, IT'S OK...

Hello lovelies! Today's post is inspired by both my utterly rubbish day, and one of my favourite regular magazine features - the 'Hey, it's OK...' page from Glamour magazine. Today was one of those fine, magnificent days when everything that could possibly go wrong, did. It begun with a rather abrupt awakening this morning, when the lamp that rests on the shelf above my bed decided to launch itself down on top of me,(you know you've had a crazy day when you start personifying furniture) and it ended with a terrible mock driving test in which I managed to get two 'serious' marks and one 'dangerous'...oops.

Potential road accidents aside, i'll get to the point of this rambly little post. Although I do greatly appreciate all the good things in my life, every now and then, I think it's acceptable to wallow in self pity for a short period of time. It's ok to take a little bit of time to feel sorry for yourself and be a tiny bit selfish. 

So tonight, instead of starting the essays that are due in a few days time, or tidying my floordrobe, I made a bit of time to feel sorry for myself. I changed into my pyjamas, put the kettle on, and curled up on the sofa with my favourite magazines to cheer myself up. I know, I know, wild. Afterwards though, I felt a lot happier, and after ringing my best friend, actually saw the funny side of my ridiculous day.

I wrote this post as a little reminder to myself, and to you if you want, to realise that it's ok that things in life go wrong sometimes, and it's ok to feel a bit rubbish because of them. If you've had a rubbish day, why not make yourself a cup of tea, stick on your favourite film and have a bit of 'you' time? I hope you don't mind these ramblings, and i'll leave you with a few of my favourite Glamour quotes to cheer you up if you do!
